The Accidental Godman (English) (Paperback) : The year is 2027. While India has evolved into a two-party system, acute problems beset the nation - terminal pollution, exploding population, and urban chaos. Rewind to the story of Ranvijay, from the Saharshpur principality of Himachal, brought up by an English tutor and an eccentric godman. His mystic obsession comes to the fore at a chance meeting which lands him in the lap of Kamashram at Chhattarpur, under the guiding spirit of Swami Kamdev Anadmurti, himself a gremlin-to-godman tale. The story takes several turns until machinations by unscrupulous businessmen force a move to another facility - The Village of Love, run by the colourful Rajat Chowdhury, the beautiful Nisha, and controversial painter, G.G. Aryaman. This new bit of heaven on earth sees the unfolding of political drama, mysterious deaths and tempestuous relationships. The Accidental Godwin is a story of ancient vedic rites and ultimate human endeavour, violent relationships and sudden death; lust for power and men of vast talent laid low by other men with greater power. It offers a cynical view of the machinations of bureaucrats and moneybags; of beautiful women and men who suddenly acquire the power of life and death. Depicts with merciless clarity the clever mix of perceived reality and hidden truth which is the essence of politics. Explores the incredible mix of sleaze and worship, occasionally focusing on the seamy underbelly permitted by some ashrams and purported spiritual retreats, and the sexual interactions and distortions justified by the glamour of the spiritual guide the omniscient, alpha male Guru. It portrays how violence and sometimes fatal intrigue is woven into the serenity and love that is supposed to abound in such retreats. The price of the limelight and the aura of nirvana is silence and looking the other way.
